Skinny Fat – Should I bulk or cut?

Do you have a big waist but have skinny arms? Are you not confident with how you look? Do not stress! This isn’t the end of the world. There is a solution to fixing the skinny fat issue and it is much more simple than you think.

The question stands – do you bulk or cut if you are skinny fat?

The answer – you go in a slight caloric deficit, aka cut.

Here is what you do –

1. Find your maintenance calories. (If you are not sure how to find your maintenance calories, use a macro calculator.)

2. Deduct 10% of your maintenance calories to put you in a caloric deficit.

3. Track your meals on a food tracking app. (MyFitnessPal or Cal Ai)

4. Follow a strength training program that ensures you are progressing in your lifts and getting stronger. (Whether it is increase reps up to 12 or adding 2.5-5lbs each week.)

5. Track your weight and ensure you are slowly losing 0.5-1b each week. (Be sure to check your weight at the same time each week and be sure to use the bathroom first before stepping on the scale.)

IMPORTANT TIP: Numbers don’t always mean everything. Sometimes accessing yourself in the mirror and taking weekly photos can show how your body is changing. Of course, it is great to have numbers and have solid stats but you should always check how you look and see if there is improvement.

If you are interested in the training aspect/programming I provide 1-on-1 strength training sessions that focuses on form correction and progressive overload.
